Vacation was fun…and other things

If you haven’t gotten down to Nashville, Tenn., do yourself a favor — next time you have vacation time and some money to travel, get there!

I just got back from visiting my brother and his family, and man what a great time had by all.

Between going to the park virtually everyday to play baseball with my nephews, the good food, the good music, the good concert and the great time spent with family,  I definitely had wished I wasn’t back home come Sunday afternoon. Alas, had to get back to the daily grind to — hopefully — do it all over again; only this time in Miami.

Because my brother is a family man, he was kind enough to put me up while I was there. Of course, I have, and always will, repay the favor when he makes it to Massachusetts, but that’s besides the point.

Since he was so kind, I offered to take him and his wife out to dinner as a thank you. She really wanted to go to Germantown, however, we ended up going to Sunset Grill instead. I’ve never eaten at Germantown, but I certainly wasn’t disappointed in Sunset Grill. Man, the food was SPECTACULAR! Oh, and do yourself a favor; if you have FourSquare, check in. On your first check-in, you get a free dessert! I took advantage and got the Butterscotch-Habanero Bread Pudding. Wowsers, was that good! For an appetizer we ordered the seafood platter which consisted of calamari, a crab cake and shrimp and grits. The calamari was perfectly breaded and the dipping sauce was nice and tangy. The crab cake was OK, I’ve definitely had better. But the real show stopper was the shrimp and grits. They served six shrimps and the grits — which was cooked with cheese — was to die for! Not usually a fan of grits, but that serving was amazing.

Got a chance to take in a concert, too. Katy Perry‘s California Dreams Tour was at the Bridgestone Arena and I took it in. You can read what I thought of it in the Telegram Pop Culture Notebook. Before the concert, I went to Jack’s Barbecue for some, well, barbecue. I wound up getting the brisket and pork shoulder with two, ahem, veggies — mac & cheese and apples. Yes, Tennessee considers mac & cheese a veggie.

That’s the recap from on the road. A splendid time.

Will get back to everyday things soon. I promise.

Catch you on the flip side.
