And here we go…

There’s a lot going on right now, let’s not waste any time.

Penn State University is rocked by scandal involving a defensive coordinator, and long-time coach Joe Paterno will retire after 46 seasons.

“I am absolutely devastated by the developments in this case. I grieve for the children and their families, and I pray for their comfort and relief.

I have come to work every day for the last 61 years with one clear goal in mind: To serve the best interests of this university and the young men who have been entrusted to my care. I have the same goal today.

That’s why I have decided to announce my retirement effective at the end of this season. At this moment the Board of Trustees should not spend a single minute discussing my status. They have far more important matters to address. I want to make this as easy for them as I possibly can.

This is a tragedy. It is one of the great sorrows of my life. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more.

My goals now are to keep my commitments to my players and staff and finish the season with dignity and determination. And then I will spend the rest of my life doing everything I can to help this University.”

That’s JoePa’s official statement regarding the whole situation. With the benefit of hindsight he wishes he could’ve done more? That could be what gets him axed before the season even ends. Actually, it should get him axed before seasons end.

Adobe announced today that it’s killing all Flash Players for mobile and going in the direction of HTML5. Am I naive in thinking that Apple had something to do with this? Seriously. People with iOS devices — the number is growing rapidly — have been complaining for far too long. Actually, I have friends with Android devices and they say outside of delivering ads, Flash actually made sites run slower on mobile.

So, HA! Take that, Adobe and Android. People thought they were so cool with their Flash-enabled smart phones. Granted, people with iOS devices thought they were cool with their devices that are optimized for everything HTML5.

Who wins? Everyone, basically. Smooth move, Adobe. You’re just a little late getting to the party.

I know I don’t normally chime in when it comes to politics — and, generally, I have the same attitude toward politics as Jonathan Davis (Don’t give a fuck about politics; don’t want to talk about politics) — so you know something is up if I am writing about it in this space.

My city had its elections yesterday — yes, shocker, I know. District 4, for whatever ungodly reason, elected Sarai Rivera as its new City Councilor. “But, Jorge,” you may start thinking to yourself, “a Latina to represent that District is perfect for the city.” I have no qualms with Latinos in politics … generally. When it comes to her and, more specifically, her family, I do. I take particular exception because I know their history. I take particular exception because I am effected by her family every day.

It’s my brother’s birthday today — Happy Birthday, bro. I love you and miss you!

A few months ago, a friend of mine was bragging about he loves his strength coach and has gotten to love working out. (After being a fat kid all through college, he’s looking phenomenal nowadays.) One Friday night, it was late — like midnight or 1 a.m. late —  he told  me I should join him that very next Saturday at the gym to work out just to see what I thought. “What the hell,” I thought, “this can’t be too bad. Besides, I’ve been meaning to actually start doing that again, anyway.” I went to the gym and fell in love with it and the trainer. I’ve been going for two months now, and I’ve loved every second of it. I can really tell that I actually enjoy it because when I took a week off when I was on vacation, all I could think of when I was on vacation is “Damn, I can’t wait to get back to the gym.” HA! Me! A fat kid. Still working on that. I’ve dropped some weight and I am feeling awesome, but there’s still work to be done =)

That’s pretty much the gist of what’s been going on in my world of late. Work, gym, coaching; work, gym, coaching. Yeah.

Catch you on the flip side.
